You need to file a paper return. File as MFS and mail it to the service center. Since you are not claiming any benefit for your wife, you do not need her SSN.

2

You might want to try enter “unable”. This could let you get by the field. If it does not allow you, see if there is a help field that goes along with the program. This will only allow you to file a mail in return, but at least you will be able to file.

Good Luck,

You file as “married filing separately.”

You should contact the IRS and see how you need to handle the situation. This is their problem resolution number: 877 829-4477

You should have a copy of a previous year’s income tax return, and that would have her information, including her social security number on it.

If you do not have a copy of it, and you paid someone to prepare it for you, such as H & R Block, they will have a copy on file; get it from them.

See if you can round up an old pay stub, an old bank statement–anything…banks record social security numbers as a matter or record when one opens an account, so if you had a joint account, you should be able to pull your records and get it there…..until recently, the SSN was printed on many bank statements…only recently did they stop doing that…also, some health insurance company cards require the info and put that on the card as an ID number…unless your ex took every single piece of paper from your marriage, you MUST have her SSN somewhere…

Start look, and think outside the box, man, or you are screwed!

When was the divorce final? If it was Dec 31 or before she has nothing to do with your taxes.
